There are many levels based on the context of how many categories of conversation can be. First of all, what is the context of the conversation?

In terms of personal life

It is more important to selecting categories of conversation while speaking 

Actually conversation categories are 2 types 

  • Cooperative : Is all about working together to create shared meaning. It’s built on mutual understanding, respect, and a willingness to contribute to the conversation
  • Competitive : A competitive conversation is like a friendly match. Everyone wants to win, but the goal is to have fun and learn while you play.

Cooperative section hold two types of conversation categories 

  1. Dialogue – essentially a synonym for conversation. It refers to an exchange of spoken words between two or more people.
  2. Discourse – essentially means a focused and in-depth discussion on a particular topic. It goes beyond casual chat and aims for a deeper understanding or resolution.

Competitive section hold two types of conversation categories 

  1. Debate – A debate conversation is a structured discussion where two or more people present opposing viewpoints on a specific topic.
  2. Diatribe – A diatribe is essentially a one-sided, angry speech or rant. It’s a monologue, not a conversation. It’s characterized by criticism, often delivered with strong emotion and little regard for the listener’s perspective

Conversation categories are a feature offered by some messaging and communication platforms that allow you to group and sort your conversations based on specific criteria.
